I have an old laptop connected to my stereo receiver. I use foobar (free software) to play the flac files on the computer. If I want to listen to a show that's been mastered in DTS 5.1, I'll plug an external hard drive into my blu-ray player, but the blu-ray player doesn't have gapless playback, which I why I prefer the computer/foobar if just listening in stereo. My stereo receiver is pretty old, but anything semi-recent should have a USB port that you can plug an external HD into. Hope that helps!

Speaking of foobar2000, it has a mobile version that allows one to play flac files on smartphones. I use on my iPhone.

Agreed. The Android version of Foobar is excellent also. Even plays 24-bit flac files, which Winamp wouldn't do.
